The "Puka Hale" Tour This tour is available 7 days a week and leaves from the barn at Kohala Carriages in Halaula (just 1 mile past the "King Kamehameha Statue" in North Kohala.) at 11:00 a.m. daily. Reservations are required. |
Our tour features two gentle giant Belgian draft horses that pull our spacious cedar wagon (equipped with cushioned seats in the shade), where every passenger has a great view of the lush foliage the back country of Kohala has to offer. You'll see green rolling pastures, awesome views and, many times, a wild pig or two. The destination is an area once well used by the ancient Hawaiians, a spiritual place to King Kamehmeha. We follow Halawa Valley down to the ocean as a cool mountain stream follows us to the shore. There we have lunch at our private park on the bluffs- an excellent place to spot whales and "honu," the Sea Turtle. The trip is definitely the way to relax and enjoy Hawaii's natural beauty. |

Come take a ride back in time. The "Puka Hale" tour is a 2 and 1/2 hour tour. It includes lunch, prepared fresh the morning of your tour by one of our local restaurants. We share a little history of North Kohala, teach the Hawai'ian names for some of our local plants and animals, and maybe tell a story or two. The price is $47.50 per/person adult, and $37.50 for children 10 and below. |
