Note the difference between this photo and the one of the boat launching area on a calm day! Waves travel in sets, with deceptive lulls between them. Always check surf conditions for a period before entering the water. Be alert for tell-tale signs like water splashed at a distance from the sea itself (tides here in Hawaii are minmal and cannot account for such wet areas).
